About The Role

The NCC continues its remarkable productivity, and the momentum is only accelerating with exciting ventures into new sectors in 2024. As we embark on some large-scale programmes of work, aimed at introducing fresh innovations in composite technologies, we are seeking a Research Engineer to join our Concept Design Team and contribute to the success of these initiatives.

As a valued member of our team, you'll actively contribute to the generation and development of innovative concepts. Using a range of engineering software tools and processes you'll play a pivotal role in bringing ideas to life, taking projects from first principles through to prototype manufacture.

Our collaborative team comprises individuals with diverse skills, including expertise in Composite Design & CAD, Structural Analysis & Optimization, and Materials & Processes. As part of our team, you’ll be engaged in various impactful activities, including:

  • State-of-the-Art assessments & Literature reviews
  • Feasibility studies
  • Requirements Capture
  • Concept Generation, Assessment and Down-selection
  • Structural Analysis & Optimisation for light-weighting, performance enhancement and or cost reduction

You’ll be actively involved in a range of design and development activities and programmes across various industries, as well as contributing towards the NCC’s pressure vessel design development, manufacture, and testing programmes.

So, what are we looking for?

  • Design Experience: Proficiency in CAD packages (CATIA/NX/Solidworks)
  • Analysis Experience: Competence in a spectrum of analysis methods, ranging from hand calculations to advanced analysis.
  • Python Experience: Experience in Python or other coding languages, with a willingness to learn.
  • Verification: Comfortable with planning and interpreting experimental data.
  • Composites: Demonstrated expertise in working with composite structures.
  • Teamwork: A strong team player, with excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with various stakeholders.
  • Additional Background: Proficiency in pressure vessels, familiarity with thermoplastic molding techniques, or expertise in the filament winding process is advantageous.
