About The Role

The NCC's 2022 has been highly productive, and the growth isn't slowing with exciting developments into new sectors. With some large-scale programmes of work coming up, focused on delivering fresh innovations in composite technologies, an opportunity has come up for a Research Engineer to support our High Volume Manufacturing team.

As we refocus our strategic approach towards delivering innovation to help move towards a Net-Zero economy, we are looking to build our expertise in the Renewable Energy market. As such we are looking for someone who is interested in growing or developing their experience within this space.

The HVM team looks after projects focused primarily on practical manufacturing and process development, but as an Engineer within the team, your role can involve a wide range of responsibilities, from concept engineering to design, to materials and process selection.

You'll work closely with customers to understand their manufacturing requirements, and give detailed and practical instruction to our technician teams. You're a vital link between the project and the activity on the shop floor.

So what are we looking for?

  • If you have experience within an R&D setting, or within a relevant sector ( Energy, Marine or Large Structures), that's a big bonus!
  • You’ll have good knowledge of composites and materials for large-scale, heavily-loaded structures, with a clear understanding of industrialisation of relevant technologies
  • You're an experienced manufacturing engineer or process development engineer, with a good knowledge of the manufacturing toolkit and an intuition for problem solving within a practical context. You know the challenges faced by technicians on the shop floor and how to overcome them. If you have experience of materials and process selection, that's a bonus
  • You're a strong team player, with excellent communication skills, whether liaising with your Engineering team, Technicians, or directly with Customers
  • Specialist knowledge - any experience working with injection-moulding, RTM, thermoplastics and/or composites is also a big plus

What do we offer in return?

Flexible working patterns, great people, honorary staff status at the University of Bristol, a genuine focus on learning and development, and a chance to build your career in a thriving R&D facility with a bright future.  And an opportunity to help shape the future for composite materials and manufacture.

We look forward to your application.
