About The Role

The defence sector portfolio at the NCC is growing significantly, this is being driven by a high demand for innovation projects across both the private sector and from the Ministry of Defence.

As Deputy Chief Engineer, you’ll directly support the National Security interests for the UK by helping to shape the future strategic intent for composites and adjacent technologies into current and future defence programmes.

Deputising to the Defence and Space Chief Engineer, we are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team who aspires to develop into the growing UK Defence sector, who can provide their skills, expertise and influence into supporting UK interests for new technology development and exploitation.

You’ll take a key role in guaranteeing the technical quality of engineering output of programmes within the NCC’s Defence portfolio. You'll lead some of our major upcoming programmes, working with senior PMs and engineers from across the business to ensure technical excellence in delivery. You'll also support the delivery and strategic evolution of the Composites Technology Forum for UK Defence, a nationally facing forum including stakeholders from industry and government, making this a great step in your career.

This is an internal secondment with the potential to go perm.

So, what are we looking for?

  • Management of technical programmes - You have some experience as a technical leader, with a record of ensuring high technical standards in work packages. Composites are not absolutely essential but desirable.
  • Technology - while composites aren't essential, experience within the digital engineering space and non-composite technology materials would be ideal, as well as a good understanding of the manufacturing toolkit, automation and systems engineering.
  • Defence sector engineering in the NCC covers all operational military domains, therefore experience or interest in research engineering and strategy for technologies across aerospace, land operations, maritime, and space applications would be attractive.

How to apply

We would encourage you to discuss your interest in this opportunity with your line manager and to reach out to Sean Cooper if you would like an informal chat about the role.

Please indicate your expressions of interest by 23:59 on Thursday 27th June.

Not sure you meet all the requirements? Let us decide! Research shows that women and members of other underrepresented groups tend not to apply for jobs if they think they may not meet every qualification, when in fact they often do. At the NCC we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment and strongly encourage you to apply.

All requests will be carefully and fairly considered. We wish you every success in your job search.
